Argos joins Bicycle Association’s Cycling Market Data Service

Argos has confirmed today that it will join the Bicycle Association’s Cycling Market Data Service.

Argos, the well-known multi-channel retailer operating in the United Kingdom and Ireland, and part of the Sainsbury’s group, was established in 1972. The company, with 29 million store customers and nearly a billion online visitors every year has top brands and offers customers what they want, how they want it, through same-day Fast Track Delivery and free in-store Fast Track Collection services as well as the in-store experience.

Dean Turley, Market & Competitor Insight Manager at Argos, commented: “We are delighted to be working with the Bicycle Association, to more accurately monitor and successfully operate within the UK cycling market.”

The BA’s new Market Data Service will provide essential insights to support the BA’s advocacy agenda with national and local government and will also provide retailers, manufacturers, brands and distributors with invaluable insights on how to develop their businesses.

Simon Irons, Associate Director at the Bicycle Association, who is leading the market data initiative, said: “We are delighted to welcome Argos into the Service which will particularly bolster our mainstream adult and kids bikes reporting and is another significant step on the road to achieving our target of 70% market coverage by the end of the first year of launch”.

The BA is already reporting early insights from the market data service to those already signed up and with the addition of Argos, is now planning for the on-line portal launch in Q1 2020, once all data is loaded. Once available, users will be able to compare their business versus the market at category or brand level and by channel and by price band to help identify areas of true underperformance and take targeted actions in a way that has never previously been possible.

The Bicycle Association (BA) is the trade association for the UK cycle industry. Its Market Data Service is an industry initiative to provide accurate sales data to the whole sector and is FREE to all independent bike shops contributing their data.
