The Bicycle Association has submitted a 15-page response to the recent Department of Transport consultation about the “Vnuk judgement”, the implications of which could result in third party insurance becoming compulsory for electric bikes, in a similar way as currently applies to motor vehicles. This prospect has raised widespread concern across the cycling community in the UK, as it threatens the potential of e-bikes to make a real difference as a low-impact, healthy and accessible mode of transport for all.
