Vnuk judgement – DfT consultation response
April 5, 2017
The Bicycle Association has submitted a 15-page response to the recent Department of Transport consultation about the “Vnuk judgement”, the implications of which could result in third party insurance becoming compulsory for electric bikes, in a similar way as currently applies to motor vehicles. This prospect has raised widespread concern across the cycling community in the UK, as it threatens the potential of e-bikes to make a real difference as a low-impact, healthy and accessible mode of transport for all.
This Bicycle Association consultation response has been backed by all of the key organisations representing cycling in the UK, and we are very grateful for their endorsement: British Cycling, Cycling UK, Sustrans, CycleNation, London Cycle Campaign, Bikeplus, and TABS.
